And when you add essential oils and essential oil-infused products, it makes cleaning easier, more pleasant, and better for the environment than the harsh chemicals used in many household cleaning products.
Countertops are among the most heavily used surfaces in the average household. We pile everything from bills and money to plates, toothpaste, and hairbrushes on the counters in our kitchens and bathrooms. Honestly, the hardest part is finding the surfaces underneath the piles!
Now is a great time to clear your countertops and find a place for everything. Then it’s time to break out the Thieves Household Cleaner. I keep a spray bottle of heavily diluted Thieves Household Cleaner at my kitchen sink and in my laundry room. It provides a quick, easy, and spicy-smelling way to clean surfaces.
Do you have a set of dishes for each season? It’s probably not very “minimalistic” of us but we do. So we take care of those family heirlooms by washing them in Thieves Dish Soap. This plant-based formula will leave your dishes sparkling and lemon-fresh.
Dishes are easy to clean, but some containers can retain stains and residual oils. Mix one capful of Thieves Household Cleaner with one cup of white vinegar. Let soak for five minutes and then hand wash with Thieves Dish Soap and water.
A common area for greasy buildup is your stovetop. While some harsh chemical products promise to get the job done, you don’t have to expose yourself and your family to those fumes. Take one capful of Thieves Household Cleaner and mix with four cups of water. Need something stronger? Change the ratio to one cupful per cup of water. Spray on your stovetop, let sit a few minutes, then wipe it down. Voila!
Have you ever used the self-cleaning option on your oven? UGH! The smell seems to last for days and days. Make cleaning your oven easy by using Thieves Household Cleaner at full strength straight from the bottle, then let it sit for five minutes and wipe it clean. Works for your countertop oven or toaster oven, too!
Take a few days off grocery shopping and use some of those items in your refrigerator or freezer and empty it out. Then mix two cups of water, three tablespoons of Thieves Dish Soap, and 20-30 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil for the ideal cleaning solution.
While you’re in the kitchen, give those cutting boards a good freshening up. Fresh lemon is foolproof for this. Just cut a lemon in half, run it over the surfaces, let it sit for 10 minutes, and rinse away the residue.
Your floors take a beating all year round and they can be a challenge to keep clean. Take two cups of vinegar, one cup of water, and 15 drops of your favorite essential oil like Lemon, Tea Tree, or Lemongrass for the perfect cleaning solution.
For a good cleaning, add one cup of baking soda and 20-25 drops of Tea Tree, Lemon, or Eucalyptus to a glass Mason jar. Close it, shake it and let it sit overnight. Then sprinkle it on your carpet a few minutes before you vacuum. For stains, you may want to let the mixture stay on the carpet a little while longer.
A great way to bring a fresh aroma into your living area regularly is to put a couple of drops of essential oil on a tissue or a cotton ball, next vacuum up the tissue with the hose attachment of your vacuum cleaner. Then, when you go on with your vacuuming, instead of smelling the dust and dirt that you usually smell when you vacuum, you can enjoy a nice aroma. Try this with Peppermint essential oil or a blend like Purification or Citrus Fresh.
Wood floors can pose special challenges. Add ¼ cup of olive oil and ⅓ cup white vinegar to a bucket. Add hot water to fill the bucket then top it off with 10 drops of lemon, orange, or Pine essential oil. Stir the mixture with your mop. Mop as usual.
While you’re in the kitchen and bathroom, give some attention to doorknobs and cabinet handles. We touch them every day countless times, but how often do we clean them? Hit them during this year’s spring cleaning with a spray of that diluted Thieves Household Cleaner. It gets the job done with very little effort.
Wood trim and baseboards also deserve an annual once-over. Fill a large sprayer bottle with water and four to five capfuls of Thieves Household Cleaner. You’ll enjoy a spicy-sweet aroma when you’re finished.
Try making a mixture of a small amount of baking soda, with a couple of drops of lemon essential oil, and a capful of Thieves Household Cleaner concentrate. Add enough water to make a paste. Use this paste with a rag or a scrub brush to remove the dirt and grime from all of your bathroom surfaces. It works just great!
Use essential oils like orange, lemon, and peppermint combined with baking soda to polish up the chrome surfaces in your bathroom and make them shine. The added benefit? It smells so much better than the chemical cleaners or even bleach… and it does the job!
This one gets a little more involved… If you’re getting your home ready for springtime, you have to make sure your windows give you a sparkling view of the beautiful outdoors. Use one capful of Thieves Household Cleaner, five drops of Citrus Fresh Essential Oil, and one teaspoon of white vinegar, mixed with three cups of water. I find this spray works better than the blue stuff… and smells much better, too!
The same mixture that cleans your windows will make your bathroom mirrors sparkle, too. Use one capful of Thieves Household Cleaner, five drops of Citrus Fresh Essential Oil, and one teaspoon of white vinegar, mixed with three cups of water in a spray bottle.
Remember when we dried all of our bedding on a clothesline in the backyard? You don’t have to go that retro for your sheets and comforters to be fresh and clean this spring. Try using Thieves Laundry Soap. Natural enzymes boost this powerful essential oil laundry soap to leave your clothes fresh and clean with a light citrus scent.
What spring cleaning would be complete without a deep dive into your closets? After you sort through and get rid of those items you haven’t used in the last year, spritz your closets for a wonderful aroma. Try a blend of 15-20 drops of Peppermint and Lavender essential oils topped off with a cup or two of purified water.
The closet spray will freshen your upholstery, too, so don’t forget to give it a good spritz after you’ve vacuumed out the nooks and crannies. Blend of 15-20 drops of Peppermint and Lavender essential oils topped off with a cup or two of purified water in a spray bottle.
Take a few minutes to clean your garbage cans by filling them with water and two to three capfuls of Thieves Household Cleaner. Let this mixture sit for one to two hours before rinsing.
