For Young Living, the World Leader in Essential Oils®, 2013 was a banner year, marked by remarkable successes, shattered sales records, and continued innovation. 2014 is shaping up to continue the trend. At the Grand Convention in June, 2014, I took a photo of the presentation showing the 3 year trend in enrollments of distributors. Travis Ogden, Young Living COO, gave an inspiring “State of the Company” address assuring the attendees that the company will continue to expand operations to meet the needs of distributors without ever compromising on the quality of the products.

If that isn’t enough to inspire you, statistics from the Direct Selling Association and U.S. Census were recently brought to my attention. Here are some tidbits for you …

First, direct sales has grown steadily over the past 4 years in the U.S. There is a representative of direct selling in nearly 14% of U.S. households. In 2013, there were 16.8 million people working in direct sales, this is a record high… And there was $32.67 billion in Direct Sales in 2013.

The top reasons people become a direct seller:

  • Long-term supplemental income
  • Short-term supplement income
  • The flexible schedule
  • The ability to purchase the products at a discount

What about future projections?

The Direct Selling Association predicts that there will be 3-5% growth annually in the next few years. Also, by 2015, it is estimated that 50% of homes will be involved in the Multi Level Marketing Industry.

According to the Direct Selling Association’s Industry Research Committee Chairman, Jeff Morris (Director, Forecasting and Financial Analysis at The Pampered Chef):
The strength of the Wellness category demonstrates the ability react to trends such as aging populations and increased health awareness. It’s also a strong category because of current uncertainty about healthcare and rising costs, as well as concerns regarding healthcare coverage and medical expenses.

Nothing to Sneeze At

  • Statistics show the average work from home income $59,250 per year.
  • 20% of home based entrepreneurs said that their business grossed between $100,000 and $500,000 in 2013.
  • Home based business wage earner’s success rate is over 85% compared with small businesses like retail shops and restaurants, at about 95% failure rate after 5 years.
  • 84% recommend working from home to others.
  • 29% work at home with other family members.


This is all data from the United States Network Marketing statistics. I’ve been told the World-wide MLM statistics are even more explosive!
