The ultimate way to begin your day

What if you had a secret weapon to take on the day? It would change your life!

Kathleen Harvey introduced a new idea in a periscope video that truly clicked with me. It’s something I’ve taken hold of and made a daily part of my routine … with some miraculous results!

Are you familiar with Ephesians 6 from the Bible? Verses 10 – 18 is a mighty section of scripture where Paul challenges Christians to put on the full armor of God. Head to toe … entire body … not just some protection but a complete covering of security.

Paul starts this section reminding us that the battles we face in life are the schemes of the devil and we are fighting against the spiritual forces of evil.

Couple the words in this passage with prayer and not only are you clothed and covered, but you are sealed with the power of the Holy Spirit.

Think of it … this routine is powerful enough in and of itself – but what would happen if you added one or more essential oils to the regime?

Dr. David Stewart in his book, Healing Oils of the Bible says of essential oils:

“Because they are direct creations of God’s word (Genesis 1:11-12), when properly applied in a prayerful manner, they possess the divine intelligence to know how to do what is beneficial and to avoid doing that which may bring harm.”

I urge you to make a commitment to go through this routine each morning for a week and watch God at work. Can you commit to a month? … or even longer?

The Prayer

1. Drop a drop of essential oil to the top of your head and pray,
   “God, help me to put on the helmet of salvation that is only found in Christ Jesus. I believe in His life, death, burial and resurrection and that I experience forgiveness of my sin through Him.”
2. Drop 1 drop of essential oil in the palm of your hand and apply it to your chest, rubbing in a clockwise circular motion and pray,
   “Heavenly Father, when you look at me you see the breastplate of righteousness covering me. Because Jesus has covered my sin you see His righteousness in me. Thank you for your incredible gift of mercy.”
3. Drop 1 drop of essential oil in the palm of your hand and apply it around your navel rubbing in a clockwise circular motion and pray,
   “Gird me with the belt of truth today, Lord. May I be truthful and full of integrity in all that I do today.”
4. Drop 1 drop of essential oil in the palm of your hand and apply it on the sole of your right foot and pray,
   “May I be prepared with the readiness of the gospel today. I pray I am alert to the opportunities to tell people I encounter about the good news of Jesus and the abundant life that is found in a relationship with Him.”
5. Drop 1 drop of essential oil in the palm of your hand and apply it on the sole of your left foot and pray,
   “May I share the love of Christ in an attitude of peacefulness using kind words without arguing.”
6. Drop 1 drop of essential oil in the palm of your hand and apply it on your right shoulder and pray,
   “Lord, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. Please bring to my mind [this passage of Scripture that I read today] and help me to remember your promises.”
7. Drop 1 drop of essential oil in the palm of your hand and apply it on your left shoulder and pray,
   “Finally, God in Heaven, I pray I would take up the shield of faith and carry it with me throughout this day. Faith is my unbreakable confidence in You. Protect me from evil and from the fiery darts that are aimed at me.”

Now that I am fully clothed in the armor of God, I give you my day today, Lord. Lead me to what you have in store for me today and let me heart not be troubled when it is not the day I imagined was ahead of me. I pray all these things in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
